Love and prayers go out to Reg E. Cathey and his family.
The House of Cards actor passed away at the young age of 59 on Friday at his home in NYC.
He had been battling lung cancer.
However the exact cause of his death has not been released to the public.
Reg was an accomplished actor whose credits go back to the 1980’s.
In 2015, he won an Emmy for outstanding guest actor on the hit political drama House of Cards.
He was also and was three-times nominated for his role as Freddy Hayes—the owner of a BBQ restaurant.
The actor also had significant supporting roles on HBO’s The Wire and Oz.
Co-stars, friends, and fans took to Twitter to share their shock and sadness over the death of the Alabama native.
Luke Cage’s Mike Colter tweeted, ‘Go gentle into that good night my brother.’
‘It was an honor spending time with you on set. Getting to know you as a person and an artist. You will be missed.’
‘Condolences to your family. I salute you.’
While the legendary Samuel L. Jackson wrote on Twitter, ‘Shattered at the loss of Reg E. Cathey!’
