Seven Advantages For Spouses Of Military Personnel

Military Personnel and wife

Military spouses face many challenges, but they also have opportunities, such as better access to higher education and better job possibilities. Some of these benefits will become available to you upon your spouse’s enlistment or your marriage; others will require you to actively seek them out. We have compiled a list of the top five advantages enjoyed by military spouses.

Being chosen to accompany one’s hero is a great honor.

Yes! All the items on the list pale in comparison to this one. After years of service to our country, our husbands welcome us home with open arms and hearts. Having someone to look up to is invaluable, especially when you’re in a uniform like that, and having someone who is also my personal idol is like striking gold.

Counseling for Couples and Families Seeking Help

Military and Family Life Counseling is the official name of this program. In addition to providing excellent services, they also ensure that any therapy you receive will not be recorded unless you ask them to. They have little interest in taking notes and are flexible about meeting in a different location.

Locate the closest Fleet & Family Service Center. Topics include employment, health, recreation, family-friendly activities, and more.

MyCAA Scholarships

The MyCAA Scholarship program is one of the best resources available to military spouses. The MyCAA Program offers military spouses up to $4000 in funding for the completion of a credential, certificate, or associate degree program.

Spouses of active duty members in paygrades E-1 through E-5, as well as W-1 and O-2, and Guard and Reserve members are welcome to apply. If their spouse is currently serving under Title 10 military orders, then they are eligible to apply for this program.

Coverage Against Health Care Costs

When a service member or their family member is on active duty, they are eligible for Tricare, the military’s health insurance program. Family members have access to a wide range of medical services, including preventative care, mental health care, pharmaceuticals, and eye and dental care. Health insurance premiums, deductibles, and co-pays all change depending on the policy you pick.

Dependents’ medical coverage for service members (FSGLI)

Spouses of active-duty military personnel can enroll in Family Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance, which offers up to $100,000 in coverage for as little as 45 cents for every $10,000 in protection. A spouse’s SGLI coverage can’t be more than the member’s own. In addition, parents can pay for up to $10,000 in medical costs for their children under the age of 18. Call the Military Personnel Office for details about enrollment.

Benefits for heirs under the Post-9/11 GI Bill

Spouses and children of veterans who have served for at least the minimum required time can inherit their Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits. Veterans can continue to use their spouse’s GI Bill benefits for up to 15 years after they resign from the military. Up until they turn 26, children are eligible for benefits. Children may be eligible for additional benefits, including housing allowances on a monthly basis. Visit the Education Office and Veterans Affairs Office on base for more details.

Spouses of Active Duty Service Members Assistance Program

The military spouse faces additional challenges due to the frequent relocations their partner must endure. Under the Military Spouse Preference program, spouses of active-duty service members have priority hiring for civilian positions inside the Department of Defense.
