4 Signs That Indicate Your Toilet Wax Ring Needs Repairing

People usually don’t think about the wax ring under their toilet until there is a problem. And, by then, it’s usually too late! If you’re seeing the following signs, it’s time to call a professional plumber and have them take a look at your toilet wax ring. They know the proper method of how to replace wax ring on toilet.

1) Water is Leaking Around the Base of Your Toilet

“It is believed that the plumbing fixtures market will be worth around $121.9 billion by the year 2025.” This kind of statistic shows the growing demand for quality plumbing fixtures.

One of the essential fixtures in your home is your toilet. Your toilet is used multiple times a day, and it must work properly. Water leaks around the base of your toilet are a tell-tale sign that your wax ring needs to be replaced and it’s time to call a professional.

In certain situations, you will see water seeping through cracks in the porcelain and this might be an indication that your wax ring has failed and must be replaced as soon as possible to avoid costly repairs.

2) Your Toilet Wobbles or Rocks When You Sit on It

Does your toilet wobble or rock when you sit on it? If so, this indicates that your toilet needs to be repaired. If your toilet wobbles, the wax ring is no longer sealing correctly and needs to be replaced. A wobbly toilet can also be dangerous, so it’s best to get it repaired as soon as possible.

Professional plumbers know how to replace wax ring on toilet. During this process they use a putty knife to remove the old wax ring. After removing the old wax ring, they clean the area and then apply a new wax ring around the flange. Once the new wax ring is in place, they reinstall the toilet and ensure it is secure.

This might sound easy enough to do but it can be more complicated than you realize and if it is not installed properly, it can lead to significant problems.

3) The Space Between the Toilet and the Flange are Too Far Apart

The function of a wax ring is to create a watertight seal between the toilet and the flange. The flange is the pipe that connects the sewer line to the toilet. If there is too much space between the toilet and the flange, the wax ring will not be able to create a proper seal. As a result, water will leak out, which can damage your floor and lead to mold growth. In addition, if the flange is not level, the wax ring will also be unable to create an effective seal. If you notice that your wax ring is no longer creating a tight seal, it is important to have it replaced as soon as possible. Otherwise, you may end up dealing with serious water damage.

4) There is an Unpleasant Smell Coming from Your Bathroom

Is there a strong, constant bad smell coming from your bathroom? If so, your toilet might need to be repaired. A wax ring seals the space between the bottom of your toilet and the floor drain. When this seal is broken, sewage odors can escape and cause an unpleasant smell in your bathroom.

Toilet repairs are never fun, but they are often necessary. If you have a toilet that is giving you trouble, it is essential to take action quickly to avoid further damage. The above signs are indications that your toilet wax ring might need to be repaired.
