When it comes to politics America couldn’t be more divided.
And when it comes to our current President you’re either totally for him or wholeheartedly against him.
We may be divided by what we believe in, but does that mean we can’t live side by side in peace?
Rosalynd Harris was busy working at her job at the Busboys and Poets in Washington D.C. during President Trump’s inauguration.
She assumed three men at one of her tables were likely in town for the occasion.
She told WUSA9: ‘I could tell they were from the south because they had their cowboy hats on and I was like “Oh, you’re not from the city.”‘
Harris says that she participated in the Women’s March two days before she met the men.
After she engaged in some general chit-chat with the men they confirmed they were in town for the inauguration.
They also complimented Harris’s smile and personality.
When the men left the restaurant, Harris was shocked to discover they left her a $450 tip on their $72 bill.
Along with the gratuity, the men wrote on the receipt:
‘We may come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people.’
‘Not race. Not gender. Just American. God Bless!’
Harris was overwhelmed by the men’s words and generosity. She works as a professional dancer and took extra shifts at the restaurants to pay bills.
She told the Washington Post: ‘You automatically assume if someone supports Trump that they have ideas about you.’
‘But [the customer is] more embracing than even some of my more liberal friends, and there was a real authenticity in our exchange.’
‘This definitely reshaped my perspective. Republican, Democrat, liberal are all subcategories to what we are experiencing. It instills a lot of hope.’
Rosalynd says she is going to use the extra money to help pay up-front costs for her new apartment.
