A teacher’s inappropriate relationship with her student has led to her death, and the death of her infant son.
Isaac Duran Infante, 23, of the Bronx now faces 25 years to life in prison after pleading guilty at the Manhattan Supreme Court.
He confessed to strangling his former teacher-turned-lover and their four-year-old son on Christmas Day in 2016.
Infante admitted to Justice Charles Solomon in Manhattan on Tuesday that he ‘strangled’ Felicia Barahona, 36, and the son they had together, Miguel Barahona.
Prosecutors say Infante was angry that Barahona was constantly feeding their child junk food and letting him dress up like a girl.
He also reportedly complained about having to pay $80-100 in child support a week.
The details of the case are truly horrific.
Prosecutor Nicole Blumberg read a statement in court where she revealed that Barahona was ‘still gasping for air and fighting for her life,’ as she screamed out to her infant son to call 911.
Infante was strangling her with a telephone cord in the bathroom.
But shockingly after murdering his child’s mother, Infante then strangled his son.
He then dumped his body in the bathtub and ran off.
Prosecutor Nicole Blumberg recalled Infante’s next step after the horrendous killings.
Blumberg says Infante then ‘attempted to cover up the murders and staged a murder suicide. He then went to the precinct posing as a grieving father’.
Infante was later arrested and arraigned in late December 2016 on murder charges in Manhattan Criminal Court.
He admitted to entering Barahona’s apartment with the intention of killing her.
He struck her to the floor before strangling her with the telephone cord, police said.
Police sources say Infante turned himself in after his sister, Elizabeth, showed cops a photo of him in a red sweatshirt.
He had worn that sweatshirt when he entered that apartment, but left it behind afterward, they said.
The story of how Barahona and Infante met was unusual.
Infante, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was reportedly seduced by Barahona.
Sources say she ‘made her his sex toy’ while she was his science teacher at the Bronx’s DeWitt Clinton High School.
She fathered their son Miguel while still teaching at the school, sources said.
When the truth came out, Barahona was fired from her $73,000-a-year job at DeWitt Clinton High School.
When investigators found her body, she was lying on the living room floor with an electrical cord wrapped around her neck.
Her little boy was found face down in a bathtub filled with water.
A medical examiner determined Barahona died from strangulation and her son died of asphyxia from neck compression, according to NBC 4 New York .
Judge Solomon will sentence Infante on Dec 19.
