Girl, 9, Dies After Woman Weighing 325lbs Sits On Her For TWELVE MINUTES As Punishment

As kids we hated ‘time out’ or being grounded. But as we grow, we soon realize how important it is to take responsibility for our actions.

But this right here – this is straight up child abuse!

A 64-year-old woman weighing 325lbs sat on a 9-year-old girl as punishment, causing her death. 

Veronica Green Posey, 64, was arrested and charged with cruelty toward a child and homicide for the death of Dericka Lindsay from Pensacola, Florida on Saturday. 

Paramedics responded to a cardiac arrest call at 1.35 pm where they found the young girl unresponsive. Dericka was rushed to Baptist Hospital but she was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

Posey allegedly told authorities that she sat on the small child ‘for being out of control.’ The police report states that Dericka pleaded with the adults in her home that she couldn’t breathe.

When Posey finally stood up, she tried to do CPR on the lifeless body and called 911.  

Other family members Grace Joan Smith, 69, and James Edmund Smith, 62, were charged with child neglect for failing to act on the abuse. Grace was also charged with cruelty toward a child. 

In the report, the Smiths were listed as Dericka’s parents while Posey was listed as their niece. 

Poset was allegedly called by Grace Smith to discipline the girl. Smith told police that Posey struck Dericka with a ruler and metal pipe before the girl was able to run to an armchair.

In James Smith’s arrest report, Posey was then said to have sat on the girl for close to 10 minutes before Dericka voiced that she could not breathe.

He would tell the deputy that the woman sat on Dericka for two more minutes and found the child unresponsive when she stood up.

This isn’t the first time the family have been brought to the attention of child welfare, according to Mike Carroll, secretary of the Florida Department of Children and Families. 

In a statement emailed to the News Journal, he said: ‘Dericka’s death is appalling and DCF will continue coordinating with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office to hold anyone responsible for her death accountable.’

‘As the family has a prior interaction with the child welfare system, a thorough quality assurance review will be conducted to review all prior interactions this family has had with the child welfare system.’

Posey was released after her bond was set at $125,000. Grace has a bond of $75,000 and James $50,000. They both are still at the Escambia County jail.
