How to Banish Acne with Medicated Treatments

Banish Acne with Medicated Treatments

One of the biggest manifestations of healthy skin is the natural glow you exude. Clear and blemish free skin is the holy grail of all beauty standards. Sadly our lifestyles are such that a lot of what we do can rob our skin of its youthful radiance like lack of sleep, stress, and what we eat. The good news is that dull skin can be transformed by following a few simple tips and tricks, and if you suffer from chronic acne, you may want to consult a dermatologist as prescription treatment for acne is really helpful.

Figure Out Which Treatments Work for You

Acne treatments exist and can work. There are many options you can avail, from over the counter to prescription medication. You might need to go through some trial and error to establish which treatments suit you best. For instance when it comes to Cerave vs Cetaphil, one might work for one person but the other might work best for you. You should keep a track of what treatments do and don’t suit you. If over the counter OTC treatments do not work for you, you should get an appointment to see a dermatologist who might be able to prescribe something that will.

Prescription acne medication is available in many varieties including topical, oral, and other systemic formulas. Non medicated treatments are also available and your doctor may recommend using them to treat your acne. These include lasers, light therapy, chemical peels, and other such procedures.

Give Your Acne Prescription Time to Work

While treating chronic acne is possible, there are no quick fixes when it comes to treatment. When you are treating acne at home, you should allow for at least a couple of months of consistent treatment to see results. If you have severe or chronic acne that has been around for some time, it might take even longer to clear up.  Also, if you are prone to acne and pimples, you need to stay on a maintenance program to ensure that the acne does not return. Following doctor’s orders regarding treatment is imperative if you want to give your skin the best chance against scars and blemishes.

Avoid Acne Triggers while Acne Medication

With Acne treatments, you have to stick to the prescribed regimen with patience. Yet at the same time, you should try to avoid any known triggers that cause breakouts. These triggers may include face washes and cosmetics that contain harsh chemicals. You should also avoid cream foundation and makeup products that contain oil. Opt for mineral based powdered makeup options instead. Always read the labels for anything that you are putting on your face, and make sure they are “noncomedogenic” products. Noncomedogenic products don’t clog pores. All your toiletries and sunscreen should be noncomedogenic.

Keep your Face Clean

You can use oil free makeup when you must, but try keeping your skin clean as much as you can. Always remember to wash your face at night before bed, as sleeping in makeup is bad for your pores. Sleeping in your makeup can provoke breakouts. Give your skin a chance to breathe as much as possible while you sleep and only apply a light moisturizer to nourish and hydrate your skin at night.
