It was the bizarre video of a man flexing with an Academy Award that went viral.
Terry Bryant filmed himself on Facebook Live posing with Frances McDormand’s freshly won Oscar.
The 47-year-old plead not guilty in his first court appearance on Wednesday.
Appearing in Los Angeles Superior Court, he is charged with felony grand theft of property.
Bryant allegedly swiped McDormand’s best actress award as she celebrated at the Governors Ball on Sunday night.
Bryant posted a video kissing the Oscar on Sunday night, but was caught leaving the ballroom with the statuette in hand as he posed for cameras.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said he faces up to three years in jail if convicted.
However, Judge Deborah S Brazil ruled Bryant could be released without posting bail because he does not pose a threat to the community.
A since-removed video on Bryant’s Facebook page appeared to show him courting congratulations while clutching the award.
‘Look it, baby. My team got this tonight. This is mine,’ he said and dressed in a tuxedo.
He then planted a kiss on the Oscar.
He claimed he had won the award for ‘Best Producer’ – a category that doesn’t exist.
It’s been revealed that Bryant has a long criminal history. Oregon jailhouse records show that, between 1999 and 2002, he was arrested at least seven times.
Bryant’s past includes arrests for theft, assault and criminal mischief, according to Inside Edition.
McDormand, 60, won her second best actress Oscar with Martin McDonagh’s ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’.
She had taken the award to be engraved and left it on a table while she mingled at the Governors Ball when Bryant swiped it.
Photos show her making her way through the room with security looking for the golden man.
Bryant, who is a resident of Los Angeles, handed over the trophy without resistance per an incident report filed.
He seems to be a regular on the Hollywood circuit. His Instagram page is now private but features him alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder and Beyonce.
Meanwhile McDormand’s publicist said she was ‘happily reunited’ with the bronze statuette with a double cheeseburger from California’s In-N-Out Burger chain.
