What Does Orange Is The New Black’s ‘Skinhead Helen’ Looks Like Out Of Character?

Have you binged the latest season of Orange Is The Black?

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you will already know season five of the hit show was released to Netflix earlier this month.

In the jailhouse drama there’s a rather loathsome character called ‘Skinhead Helen.’  She is a white supremacist and is always picking on the black female inmates. 

But fans of the show have been shocked to see what Francesca Curran looks like when she’s not dressed as her character ‘Helen Van Maele’.

The 23-year-old actress couldn’t look more polar opposite than the hardened criminal she plays.

Curran is a definitely a fashionista outside of the OITNB set and does not sport the facial star tattoos that her character has.

Francesca enjoys wearing makeup and false eyelashes –  a far cry from Helen’s bare-faced prison look. 

She revealed in a 2016 Instagram post that she wears wigs now because she actually shaved her head for the part.  

‘In real life, I’m so feminine. I’m so girly. I love my makeup, I love my jewelry, and all that,’ she said to Insider.

She added, ‘So to really be stripped of all that…The first time I was like, okay, wow. I found myself in the mirror and was like, this is a striking…what a difference.’

‘The daily head shaving and tattoo application to get into character takes time’, she added. 

‘I’d come in, in the morning, and I was always the first person in and the last person out of the makeup chair. I would see the whole cast come and go.’ 

Previously several episodes of the hit show were leaked before the initial release date. Hackers managed to get hold of the first five episode of the current season.
