The Late Aaliyah Gets Immortalized With A Statue At Madame Tussauds As Her Brother Rashad Attends Ceremony

She was the epitome of style and grace.

Now just days before the 18th anniversary of her tragic death, R&B legend Aaliyah has been honored with her own wax statue.

Her brother, Rashad Haughton, was there at the unveiling ceremony, held at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas at The Venetian Las Vegas.

Her brother Rashad proudly posed next to the wax figure of his late sister.

The statue was modeled after her iconic look in her 2000 music video Try Again – the theme song for her movie Romeo Must Die.

The statue featured her iconic silver bikini top, black leather pants, silver belt and a thick silver choker.

According to Adam Morey, the studio manager at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas, the wax figure took over a year and a half to create.

Morey spoke with Vibe on Wednesday, who revealed he wanted the statue to be an homage to the Grammy-nominated singer.

“This set, rather than being a recreation of any one particular Aaliyah moment, was instead designed with a message to her fans in mind,” he says. “It’s a message that hopefully reflects her everlasting legacy.”

Morey also added that it was clear right away that his team would re-create Aaliyah’s Try Again look for the wax statue.

“It was clear right away it would be the ‘Try Again’ look for our Aaliyah figure,” he added.

“The look has the sexy, edgy, timeless vibe we try to imbue in the Las Vegas attraction within all our creative choices,” he went on to say.

“Mining popular culture as only Madame Tussauds can, our desire to honor Aaliyah and the look in this way was only confirmed as we see today’s Hollywood stars like Keke Palmer, Kim Kardashian, Zendaya, also paying homage by recreating their own favorite moments of the Princess of R&B,” he concluded.

Aaliyah signed with Jive Records at just 12 years of age, with her first album, Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number, debuting when she was just 14. The album was produced by disgraced singer R Kelly.

Vibe magazine obtained a marriage certificate emerged that listed the couple married on August 31, 1994. Aaliyah, who was 15 at the time, was listed as 18 on the certificate. The  marriage was annulled in February 1995 by her parents.

However she continually denied marrying Kelly throughout her life.

The singer was killed on August 25, 2001, when the Cessna jet she was on crashed shortly after takeoff, killing eight in total.

She was just 22 years old.
