For Praize Kirkwood’s mom it was no different. After wearing her hair in dreads for twenty years, she decided it was time for a drastic cut.
If she was a little nervous about what her husband was going to think about it – she needn’t have been scared.
His gleeful reaction has now gone viral. The sweet moment was filmed by the couple’s daughter Praize Kirkwood and shared on Twitter.
The clip sees Kirkwood’s dad nervously waiting in anticipation for his wife, who’s sporting a dramatic new hair-style.
When he finally sees the makeover – a close-cropped dyed blonde do – his reaction is priceless.
‘You look like a Hollywood film star!’ he exclaims.
Kirkwood captioned the clip, which begins with her dad shuffling nervously from side-to-side:
‘So after 20 years of growing her dreads my mom wanted to cut off her hair. She wasn’t sure how my dad would react tho….but this is how he did.’
It’s hard to know who’s more surprised when the moment of truth is revealed.
Kirkwood’s father or her mother. Both laughed and embraced each other after the big reveal.
More than 14,000 people have now watched the video, with thousands commenting to say it’s left them feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
Some even shed a few tears.

After users pestered Kirkwood about what her mom looked like before the big chop, she shared some photos with her mother in her longer dreadlocks.
