Growing up if you stood out even a little bit, maybe you loved singing or had a flair for science, you were instantly a target.
I wish I could say things are changing, but bullying is still a problem in our schools.
Thirteen-year-old schoolgirl Sienna Demontis, is from Derby, U.K. She has already won Miss Galaxy UK, making her one of her country’s youngest beauty queens.
But instead of being praised by her peers for her achievements, she has suffered vicious bullying. She has even been beaten with hockey sticks.
Her mother, Dee Thompson, says her daughter Sienna has been the target of hatred for her passion.
‘She has been surrounded by girls, she has been hit with a hockey stick, been called names, been told she only won because she had makeup on,’ said Ms Thompson.
‘I think people do find it uncomfortable that she is so young, and that’s the thing.’
Sienna started out her career taking snaps of herself and uploading them to a modelling website.
Since then, the teen has been competed in several international pageants, appeared on TV adverts and modelled for Disney.
Sienna says: ‘There were some people that were kind of like negative towards it.;
‘I don’t think your age matters on doing pageants, if you find it fun then I think you should just go for it.’
Her mother Ms Thompson added: ‘It has always been Sienna’s choice and it will always be Sienna’s choice.
‘If she wants to walk away now she can walk away now.’
Holly Pirrie, from Pageant Girl Ltd, commented: ‘There is a lot more than meets the eye to the stereotype people have.’
Ms Pirrie also said she would like to invite people with negative comments to shows so they are able to see for themselves what really happens.
Sienna hasn’t let the bullies win and is keen to enter more pageants.
‘I want to enter more pageants and take home more crowns! I hope one day to compete for Miss Universe.’
‘I want to continue to model and hopefully do more things on TV.
‘I have done so much for a 13 year-old and hope that the future holds much more.’
