Serena Williams Makes Her Return to Competitive Tennis at Fed Cup With Baby Olympia Spectating

After almost a year away from the tennis courts, Serena Williams made her return to the tennis courts this weekend.

And the thirty-six-year-old tennis player was cheered on by a very special guest.

Her five-month-old daughter Alexis Olympia was present court-side cheering her mother on.

Serena Williams shared a video of herself on the court with her husband and her daughter in full view behind her.

Her husband and Reddit co-founder was holding their adorable daughter who was smiling with glee.

Alexis Olympia appeared to be enjoying her first time watching her mother play.

The toddler was wearing a flowery gown which she matched with a pink and white headband.

The five-month-old tucked an oversize pink flower in her headband increasing her ratings on the cuteness scale.

This was a very special occasion for Serena Williams who is playing her first competitive game in a year.

The thirty-six-year-old last played at the 2017 Australian Open which she managed to win despite being eight weeks pregnant at the time.

The tennis star will be joining Team USA to help defend her country’s Fed Cup title.

Serena Williams played in the first round match against the Netherlands on Saturday.

And she will play against the same opponents later today in Ashville, North Carolina.

Serena Williams was not alone as her sister Venus Williams’s name is also on the team sheet.

It will be the first time in two years that either Williams sister has been on the team.

Well, it truly seems like Serena Williams is keen on raising her daughter in the tennis way, so to speak.

About two weeks ago, she shared a picture of her daughter holding a tiny Wilson Tennis racquet.

Fans would remember that Serena’s roster of sponsors includes Wilson Sporting Goods Co.

The twenty-three time Grand Slam champion was initially supposed to make her return at the Australian Open in January.

She withdrew a few days before the tournament citing the fact the she was not yet at her peak physically.

She wrote on Snapchat,

‘After performing in my first match after giving birth I realized that although I am super close I’m not where I personally want to be’

‘My coach and team always said ‘Only go to tournaments when you are prepared to go all the way.’ With that being said I am disappointed to say I’ve decided not to compete in The Australian Open this year’.

This came after she faced a loss at an exhibition match against Jelena Ostapenko during the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi in December 2017.

But it does look like Serena Williams is raring to go especially with her daughter.

The first-time mother struggled with a spate of complications following the birth of her daughter.

However, she has said that she is stronger and better because of her daughter.

Covering February’s issue of Vogue magazine, she said,

‘When I’m too anxious I lose matches, and I feel like a lot of that anxiety disappeared when Olympia was born’.

‘Knowing I’ve got this beautiful baby to go home to makes me feel like I don’t have to play another match. I don’t need the money or the titles or the prestige. I want them, but I don’t need them. That’s a different feeling for me’.

Goodluck to Serena and team USA.
