We live in a post 9/11 world, where sadly we as people almost expect terrorist attacks.
As adults it’s hard for us to understand, for children even more so.
It’s part of what makes this story so baffling.
A substitute teacher in a Texas elementary school called the police on a six-year-old Muslim boy with Down syndrome. The teacher was apparently scared the little boy may be a terrorist.
The teacher claimed Mohammad Suleiman kept repeating ‘Allah’ and ‘boom’ in her Pearland, Texas, classroom.
‘Mohammad was born with Down Syndrome chromosome 21,’ Mohammed’s father Maher explained to Fox 26.
He added his son’s learning difficulties means he is unable to speak, something the school claims he can do.
‘It’s not true, he doesn’t speak at all,’ Maher said.
Maher says he is disgusted by the allegations that his son is a terrorist.
‘This is so stupid, it’s discrimination. Actually, it’s not implied discrimination, it’s actual discrimination.’
The phone call placed by the teacher prompted both the police and Child Protective Services to launch investigations into the Suleiman family.
‘The last three to four weeks have been the hardest of my life,’ said Maher.
‘My wife and kids were crying a few days ago and I told them everything is fine.’
The Pearland Police Department did tell FOX26 that an investigation took place but found that there was no need for police involvement.
Child Protective Services is still conducting their investigation.
