After losing her daughter in a truly tragic circumstances, a Louisiana mother could be held responsible for her death.

Brittany Stephens may be charged with the homicide of her one-year-old daughter Seyaira Stephens.

This after an off-duty Baton Rouge cop crashed his car into her Nissan SUV while going 94mph.

The 20-year-old was arrested Tuesday for showing ‘gross negligence’ after police allegedly found that she did not strap her toddler in properly.

Baton Rouge Police Department’s Christopher Manuel, 27, crashed his Corvette into Brittany Stephens’ Nissan SUV back in October.

His actions led to the death of baby Seyaira.

He was charged with negligent homicide and speeding in mid-February. However he had been kept on paid administrative leave.

While Brittany was not driving the SUV at the time of the crash, she told police she had secured her daughter inside the car seat.

Police spokesman Sgt L’Jean McKneely stated to The Advocate that the arrest was because she ‘was the person responsible for the buckling of the car seat’.

Her arrest record show that ‘lack of securing the seat to the vehicle and the loose straps are a contributing factor in the death’.

Three other adults were also in the SUV at the time of the crash.

Breea Gross, 18, has been driving the SUV at the time of the crash. She was cited for driving without a license, seat belt violation and three counts of child safety restraint violation.

Janice Gross, 40, was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive her SUV and seat belt violation while 23-year-old Seth Eames was cited for seat belt violation.

Officer Manuel was driving his Corvette on October 12, 2017, when he crashed into the Nissan.

He was driving 94 miles-per-hour, when he struck the four adults and four children on the passenger side of the Nissan, which had the green light.

While all the occupants of the Nissan were taken to a local hospital, baby Seyaira sadly died of her injuries.

Manuel, who has been on paid administrative leave since the accident, posted $15,000 bail and was released the very same day that he was booked.

Blood test revealed that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to Baton Rouge police.

Meanwhile Brittany is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her daughter.

She told WAFB:  ‘You just can’t bring her back, and that’s kind of the hardest part. Every time I look around, it’s like I see her,’ she said, ‘but then I realize that she’s gone.’
