Best Methods for Home Drain Cleaning

Don’t you sometimes wish there was someone you could rely on to clear your drain whenever it’s clogged or blocked? However, sometimes there is no one to call and you have to fix the problem yourself or call a professional plumber and pay a fee. To search for professional plumbers in your area, you can visit The Plumber Guys. But, if you don’t want to call a plumber and just want to do it yourself for whatever reason, below are the best methods for home drain cleaning to remove dirt, grime, grease, fat, oil, and hair from your drain.

Plunger

For many people, this is often the first option to consider whenever the drain seems clogged. It often works for the kitchen sink and is a convenient method that anyone can use to clear their kitchen drain. You can pour a few cups of boiled water in the sink and plunge it away. This is an environment-friendly method and does not add harsh chemicals to the drainage system. It can be used to push down foodstuffs and particles that get stuck along the drain, especially at the curve under the sink.

Hot water and dish soap

Washing the dishes in the sink often flushes food particles, oil, and grease down the drain. These can accumulate over time and block it. Using hot water can be very effective in removing the oil and grease clogging your drain. Boil a kettle of water and pour it down the sink slowly in three bits as you give it time to melt and wash away the grease and fat blocking your drain. For more effective results, mix the boiling water with a few tablespoons of your liquid dish soap before pouring the mixture down the sink. This method can remove grease clogs by heating or melting and allowing the liquid to travel along and out of the pipe. However, it may take a few tries before you get the desired results.

Wire coat hanger

This is also an effective method you can use to pull out hair and other foreign particles out of your drain. Just straighten the coat hanger and make a small hook on one end. Insert the hook end into the drain and pull out the hair buildup and other particles clogging the passageway to allow water to flow through the pipe. Ensure you have something to discard what you pull out and remember to run hot water down the drain to clean it.

Baking soda and vinegar

Instead of using chemical drain cleaners, you should opt for baking soda and vinegar. First, pour a 1/2 cup of baking soda into the drain and add a 1/2 cup of vinegar and give the mixture an hour to mix. You can follow that with a kettle of boiling water to clear the drain.

These are some of the best methods for home drain cleaning and you can try them out before calling your plumber. They are also environment-friendly and you don’t have to worry about harming the environment because they do not contain harsh chemicals found in some chemical drain cleaners that can damage your pipes and cause more problems. If the problem does not go away after trying out these methods, consider calling a professional plumber.
