Slated to release in May 22nd, 2020, Fast and Furious 9 is now officially in production, with its first leg of filming being done in London. Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriquez as well as Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, all veteran actors of this action franchise, recently confirmed the start of filming of the ninth chapter on their respective Instagram accounts. All of them either spoke about the crew, showed off the script cover or reflected on their past experiences with the film franchise. Justin Lin, who directed all the previous Fast and Furious films from Fast Five to Eight, returns as the director of the ninth installment and also took to Twitter to post a sneak peek.

In the video he posted on Instagram, Vin Diesel said, “We just completed our first day,” and reminisced about the time the franchise began in 2001, expressing disbelief with Rodriguez about how they were already on the ninth chapter. He also wrote about all of this feels like a miracle and that the whole team was grateful to Universal Pictures and for the incredible cast and crew of the franchise. He said that they were grateful to the audiences around the world for loving the franchise.

Gibson also put up an Instagram post which has a photo from the video tent with his manager Isabella Castro and the film’s producer Samantha Vincent. He was thanking them for their contributions to the franchise. Ludacris, on the other hand, simply posted a photo of his script, which had Fast and Furious 9 written on the cover with Dan Casey, the writer’s name and “Tej,” Ludacris’ character name written diagonally to identify who the script copy belongs to.

Lin, on the other hand, took to Twitter to post an image of the clapboard of Fast and Furious 9, with the names of the director and cinematographer on it. If you look closely, you can also see Dominic Toretto’s (Diesel’s character) supercharged Dodge Charger in the background, suggesting that the classic car, which was destroyed in Fast and Furious 7, is somehow back.

Although the film is currently being shot in London, reports suggest that some parts of it will be filmed in Los Angeles. Additionally, according to sources, it is expected that John Cena, Jordana Brewster and Nathalie Emmanuel will also be part of the cast.
