It is a father’s job to protect his family.
So, when Terry Brackney saw a bunch of teens trying to kidnap his daughter – he did what any dedicated dad would do.
His 17-year-old daughter Amber Brackney was leaving the family home in her vehicle in Preservation Path, Crestview, Florida on Tuesday evening.
But she was confused when she found the end of her driveway blocked with barrels.
The teen stayed in her car and was able to maneuver around the obstacles to escape down the street – without ever leaving her vehicle.
Cops believe the teens had ‘concocted a plan to kidnap the teenage daughter’ by trying to force her to leave her car to move the barrels, so they could grab her.
But Amber’s father Terry heard the commotion, grabbed his gun and ran outside to find a group of teens trying to force their way into his garage.
Mr Brackney, 51, opened fire on the group who fled into the woods, according to Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Mr Brackney later discovered they had been unscrewing some of his security lights, possibly for a second kidnap attempt.
Later a neighbor, who witnessed a ‘suspicious car’ fleeing from the scene, called the cops.
Police then stopped the 2016 White Jeep Liberty on Highway 4 and made a felony traffic stop.
Inside they found Keilon Johnson, 19, Austin French, 17, 16-year old Tyree Johnson, and 15-year old Kamauri Horn, along with a knife, guns and a roll of tape.
In a statement, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said: ‘The goal was to first force her out of her car by blocking the road with barrels and garbage cans. (However their intended victim drove around the barrels and kept going.)’
‘They then planned to head to her house, confront and subdue her father – who they believed to be wealthy – and rob the home.’
All four defendants are now charged with attempted kidnapping and attempted home invasion robbery.
Johnson was booked into the Okaloosa County Jail while the others are being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice facility.
The home where the attempted abduction took place is valued $400,000 on Zillow.
Mr Brackney runs the family-owned business Brackney Funeral Service.
