Lewis Carl Hamilton MBE is a British racing driver who races in Formula One as a member of the Mercedes AMG Petronas team.
A four-time Formula One World Champion, Lewis Hamilton is regarded by many as one of the greatest Formula One race car drivers in the history of the sport.
Hamilton won his first World Championship title with McLaren in 2008, then moved to Mercedes where he won back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015 before winning his fourth title in 2017.
Statistically the most successful British driver in the history of the sport, Hamilton has won more World Championship titles and more race victories than any other British driver in Formula One.
Being the first and only black race car driver in Formula One history, Lewis Hamilton certainly knows all about prejudice and being self-conscious.
It was, therefore, a huge surprise for the world to see the Formula One gender shame his young nephew in videos which he posted online a few days ago.
The driver has come under huge criticism from fans after admitting he was ‘so sad’ his nephew chose to wear a princess dress on Christmas day.
The Hamilton family got together to enjoy the holidays and the Formula One driver shared highlights from his family get together on Instagram.
However one of the videos he uploaded shocked fans and landed the thirty-two-year-old who was awarded the Most Excellent Order of The British Empire (MBE) in 2009 in hot water.
The video showed Lewis Hamilton gender-shaming his nephew for wearing a princess’ dress.
The controversial video starts with Lewis looking directly into the camera with a sad expression on his face and saying ‘I’m so sad right now’.
The sports star then spins the camera round to reveal his young nephew wearing a pink gown and holding a fluffy love heart wand.
‘Why are you wearing a princess dress?’ Lewis Hamilton asks him ‘Is this what you got for Christmas?’
The video immediately caused a huge uproar on the internet with many fans complaining and condemning him for his actions.
‘All respect lost for Lewis Hamilton after seeing this. I really thought Lewis was a good guy until I saw this’ fumed one disappointed follower.
A user whose name was identified to be Jonah Lee Hill,
‘You may be at the pinnacle of the sexiest sport in the world Lewis Hamilton, but you still couldn’t avoid being the embarrassing uncle at Christmas’.
The thirty-two-year-old has since apologized for his actions with a statement he released via his Twitter account.
‘I have always been in support of anyone living their life exactly how they wish and I hope I can be forgiven for this lapse in judgment. Yesterday I was playing around with my nephew and realized that my words were inappropriate so I removed the post. I meant no harm and did not mean to offend anyone at all. I love that my nephew feels free to express himself as we all should. My deepest apologies for my behavior as I realize it is really not acceptable for anyone, no matter where you are from, to marginalize or stereotype anyone’.
Lewis Hamilton has been involved in a few controversies of late.
In November, the Guardian revealed that Hamilton avoided paying tax on his £16.5m private jet by using an Isle of Man scheme that is to be investigated by HM Revenue and Customs.
Before that, his use of social media has caused various controversies, from saying ‘his s— is killing me’ on Snapchat during a Formula One press conference in Japan, to taking selfies while riding a Harley-Davidson motorbike in New Zealand.
