The Beginnings of an Appliance

When working on a ball barrow at his workplace, the inventor noticed that there was a more efficient design possible for its creation. Instead of using a large vacuum system for the factory, he figured that using a giant cyclone was a much better method. Centrifugal separators were used to collect dirt and debris in industrial areas and the inventor knew that such systems were in place at sawmills. After investigating a local sawmill, he took some measurements and built a 30-foot model for his factory.

It turns out when the inventor was working on the project at his home, he noticed that such a cyclone could extract dirt and debris without any clogging. Its bagless use would make it even more convenient. This is a solution to a problem he was dealing with on his Hoover vacuum cleaner; it would lose suction after using it for a time due to dust on the thin mesh material clogging things up. Following up on this, he built a small model made out of cardboard and sticky tape and connected it to the Hoover.

The prototype model actually worked in place of the bag. While this inventor was satisfied, the directors a part of the company he worked for weren’t as much. They thought that the existing companies at the time, Electrolux and Hoover, would have already made a better appliance if such one was possible. Instead of giving up, the entrepreneurial designer went on to create one of the most successful home appliance companies based on his designs.

Since there are many other uses for cyclone and suction technology, it’s not hard to see why. After over a decade since the official release of its first product, the company came out with the AirBlade hand dryer by 2009. This was during a time when the brand was becoming ever more popular, making it reasonable to expand out to new areas.

Since then, the brand has come out with bladeless fans, bladeless fan heaters, air purifiers, air humidifiers, hairdryers, hair straighteners, and additional hand dryer models. With so many product categories that need innovation, there’s no telling where this company will go next.
