It was a day for heroics for Kelly Ball after she helped the local police apprehend a suspect during a police chase.
Kelly Ball who is a city worker in Hartford was on a night out with a female friend of hers when she was presented with the opportunity to channel her inner heroine and she took it with aplomb.
The city worker was pretty brave as she helped with the arrest of a local perp during a police chase in Hartford on Christmas Eve.
The police chase started after police officers were called to a pub which has been identified as the Salisbury Arms Pub after a group of men had allegedly threatened a member of door staff.
Shortly after the arrival of police officers at the scene, a vehicle was stopped at the scene with one of the men inside running away and prompting a full-on police chase.
According to eyewitness reports, a female police constable who was among the first responders had attempted to apprehend the perp before he pushed her and tried to get away on foot.
Local citizen Kelly Ball who channeled her inner heroine had just come out of a nearby bar with a friend when she took notice of all the commotion.
Kelly Ball who spoke to the press in the aftermath of her act of heroism revealed that she turned to her friend to ask if they should do anything but was told ‘it’s not our problem’.
That nonchalance reportedly turned into a full-on act of heroism after the perp came running in Kelly Ball’s direction.
She revealed that she could not stand by and do nothing and decided to trip the perp on the spur of the moment as he ran by.
Speaking to the Sun she said,
‘I don’t know why, but I just stuck my leg out anyway. He was running quite fast and had a good old trip. My leg was throbbing for the rest of the evening. It left me with a big bruise.’
Kelly Ball who is currently enjoying a holiday in Spain with her friends and family did not let her throbbing leg and the ensuing fracas dampen her mood as she even went back to the pub and had a decent evening.
‘I don’t really know what came over me – I just wanted to help. We just carried on our night after as normal. I didn’t even think about it’ were the words she used to describe her evening after the incidence.
Her heroics certainly didn’t go unrecognized as apart from getting a spot in the Sunday paper, she was singled out for praise by the East Hertfordshire Chief Inspector.
East Hertfordshire Chief Inspector Gerry McDonald said,
‘I would like to praise the woman’s efforts in apprehending the suspect. Her initiative allowed my officers to capture the suspect and quickly arrest him. By the time the officers had detained him and transferred him to a police vehicle, the member of the public had left the scene so they did not get a chance to say thank you’.
The perp whose name has been found to be Cadman has been charged with possession of a controlled drug, assault on a police constable and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.
He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on January 24, 2018.
Hertfordshire Police have contacted Kelly and plan to meet with her on her return home.
